The Art of Jack Vettriano

The Art of Jack Vettriano

Jack Vettriano, (b. 1951), is a Scottish painter. Prints of his work outsell Dali, Monet and Van Gogh combined.

Jack is a self-taught artist in drawing and perspective. His style has been compared to that of Edward Hopper and Walter Sickert, and his scudded beaches to those of Eugène Boudin. In many of his paintings, there is a hidden narrative, in enigmatic compositions, a starting point for dozens of stories.

I suppose I didn't have a great appreciation for Jack Vettriano's work until I saw a short doc from the BBC (below).

We've all seen The Singing Butler on every poster site all over the internet. My parents even have it hanging in their bathroom. Jack's talents have been a bit overshadowed by the commercial success of his print sales. However, I think it's worth looking at his full body of work. Jack Vettriano is a great artist.
