Obduction

Obduction

As you walk beside the lake on a cloudy night, a curious, organic artifact falls from the starry sky and inexplicably, without asking permission, transports you across the universe. You’ve been abducted from your cozy existence and added into an alien landscape with pieces of Earth from unexpected times and places.
The strange worlds of Obduction reveal their secrets only as you explore, discover, coax, and consider their clues. As you bask in the otherworldly beauty and explore the enigmatic landscapes, remember that the choices you make will have substantial consequences. This is your story now. Make it home.

A Little History

Way back in the olden days of 1993 a game came out that rocked my world. That game was Myst. Myst was developed by Cyan, a company founded by brothers Robyn and Rand Miller. The game was lightyears ahead of anything that anyone had ever seen before. It stayed a top bestseller for nearly a decade. Then, in 1997 the brothers outdid themselves with the release of Riven. Riven greatly expanded upon the Myst universe. It's was a hugely ambitions game for the time (on 5 CDs!), and it still holds up as an incredible game today. Shortly after that Robyn Miller left Cyan to pursue other creative interests.

And Now

Fast forward to 2013, Rand Miller announced a new game on Kickstarter called Obduction. Obduction was billed as the spiritual successor to Myst with an entirely new fictional universe. Fans reacted by pouring in funding for the game (myself included). After 4 long years, it's FINALLY here.

Obduction exceeded my expectations. It takes me back to when I was seven years old playing Myst with my dad. I love the mystery and sense of discovery. You'll get frustrated and stuck on a difficult puzzle, but when you finally figure it out it's elating. 10/10 for me. Check it out.
